Deity of war, Guan Yu (gwan yoo) is a large warrior with a stern, red face and a long, lush beard. He clads himself in golden armor and green robes, and wields his mighty guandao in battle. (As an ascended mortal, Guan Yu does not have outsider Hit Dice as other members of the patheon do.)Dogma
Guan Yu is less a deity of battle than he is a deity of honor, brotherhood, and rightiousness. He advocates unity above all else, for that together the weak can stand strong against even the mightiest foe. One must never break a sworn oath or flee a battle while one still breathes. His oath of brotherhood to Liu Bei and Zhang Fei symbolizes this.Clergy and Temples
Priests devoted to Guan Yu wear long, flowing green robes and never trim their beards, and may apply red clay to their faces to further mimic their lord. They specialize in the guandao, a weapon first forged by Guan Yu, used in tripping foes and striking from a distance. Those in service to Guan Yu make vows of brotherhood much as he did, and work to unite soldiers and commoners alike in times of both war and peace.
Temples to Guan Yu are large and extravagant, often appearing palace-like in their structure. Smaller temples can be found within guard houses, with his statues holding his guandao firmly in his right hand. Rumors persist of local gangs housing temples for him, as well, for their belief in strength through unity and a shared brotherhood. Their statues are reputed to have the guandao held in his left hand, and his face is given a more sinister look, showing that a code of honor exists even in the underworld.GUAN YU
